Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of homie. By installing or using the software, or by creating or joining a household through our Cloudflare-hosted authentication service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use homie.
1. Who we are
homie ("homie," "we," "our," "us") is operated by Jonas Hermann, a sole trader based in Stockholm, Sweden. Contact: hello@heyhomie.tech.
2. What homie is
homie is a self-hosted AI home assistant. You install the software on hardware you own (typically a Mac mini or a Linux server), and it can integrate with household calendars, messages, smart-home devices, and music. homie processes most household data locally and makes optional API calls to third-party services that you choose to connect.
homie is currently in early access / beta. Features may change or be removed, behavior may be unstable, and bugs are expected.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian, to install and operate homie. Household members under 18 may use the service through an adult household account, under that adult's supervision.
4. Your household and your responsibilities
To run homie you create a "household" identified by a unique household ID and a cryptographic secret. You are responsible for:
- Keeping the household secret confidential
- The hardware on which homie runs (security, updates, backups, encryption)
- The accuracy of the information you and your household members enter
- Obtaining any consent required from other household members before processing their data with homie
- Complying with applicable laws when you use homie to interact with third parties (for example, recording conversations or sending automated messages)
5. Your data and content
Most data homie processes — including names of household members, calendar entries, messages, voice transcripts, and memory — is stored on your own device. You retain full ownership and control of that data.
A small amount of data passes through our Cloudflare infrastructure for authentication purposes only, as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use homie to harass, defraud, or harm others
- Use homie to process personal data of third parties without a lawful basis
- Reverse-engineer, probe, attack, or attempt to disrupt our Cloudflare-hosted services
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute homie without our prior written permission
- Rely on homie in life-safety-critical contexts (medical alerts, emergency response, accessibility-critical use cases without independent backup)
7. Third-party services
homie integrates with third-party APIs (including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Spotify, Twilio, and Home Assistant). You are responsible for:
- Maintaining your own accounts and API keys with those providers
- Complying with their respective terms of service
- Paying any fees those providers charge you
We are not responsible for changes, outages, or terms changes at third-party providers, and we do not control how those providers handle your data once it has been sent to them.
8. AI-generated content
homie uses large language models to generate text, voice replies, and automated actions. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for a particular situation. Do not rely on AI-generated output for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions without independent verification.
9. Fees
The homie software is provided to early-access users free of charge at this time. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers in the future and will give at least 30 days' notice before any existing user is charged.
10. Intellectual property
We retain ownership of the homie source code, branding, and Cloudflare-hosted services. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use homie for personal household purposes, subject to these terms.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
homie is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-generated outputs will be accurate.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Swedish law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of homie — including lost data, lost time, reputational harm, or third-party API costs.
Our total aggregate liability to you for direct damages is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, which for early-access users is zero.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited under Swedish law. Mandatory consumer protection rights under Swedish and EU law are not affected.
13. Termination
You may stop using homie at any time by uninstalling the software and asking us to delete your household secret from Cloudflare KV.
We may suspend or terminate access to the Cloudflare-hosted authentication service if you violate these terms or if we discontinue the service. We will give 30 days' notice of voluntary discontinuation where feasible.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where feasible, by a notice on hihomie.app. Continued use of homie after changes constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by Swedish law. Disputes shall be resolved by the courts of Stockholm, Sweden. EU consumers retain the right to bring proceedings in their country of residence under applicable consumer protection laws.
